Welcome to Speech and Language in Tara's RoomI am happy to say that the worst of winter should be behind us. In the upcoming weeks we will be able to spend more time outdoors on the playground, bike path and going for walks. These are important time for children to learn and practice their understanding of language. Make sure that while you are outside playing with your child that you provide language for what they are doing!!! Swinging on the swings 2. Use many sounds: “WOW” 3. Give the child a chance to request more by stopping in the middle of having fun. Have them request “more” using signs or words. 4. Remember another part of language is listening and hearing. Your child needs to be taught how to focus and listen to the sounds around them. While outside remind them to listen. “Did you hear that?”, “I hear a dog” , “I hear an airplane”> Everyone tends to forget that being outside does not just make the physical therapist happy!!!!!! |
